Ayam Kampung @ Dataran Velodrome Cheras

This is a back dated post. I was quite busy for quite some time and finally, i have the time to blog again today.

So, this place is one of my favourite lunch venue in Cheras, serving malay cuisine.

Here are some of the delicious food :

Ikan Tenggiri

I like the gravy for the fish. I don't know if it is curry or masak lemak.
It has the pineapple + ikan masin taste in it, but the colour is more reddish compared to masak lemak.
Anyhow, this is nice to eat with a plate of hot steamy rice.

Kari Daging

This is beef !
Again, the gravy is delicious. However, the meat tend to be a bit tough on certain days tho.

Ayam Kampung

This is the STAR of this kedai makan. Freshly deep fried ayam kampung !
The meat is nicely marinated.
However, I find that the chicken is a bit small. Tak cukup makan !

Prawns

It's fresh. But, it's nothing special.

Pucuk Paku

Some greens...

Durian thingy...

I like this durian thingy. It's a little bit spicy but when it's mixed with rice, and with those gravy... Superb !
It's like the next level of durian eating !

A special salad

I don't know what this dish is called. But, it's damn addictive !
It's a combination of bean sprout, some grated coconut, chili and beef stomach !

Ulam

Lastly, overall, this place is good place to have some malay cuisine in the afternoon. The price is pretty reasonable too ! It's about 50+ for 5 persons.

However, do note that the dishes here are a little bit salty to consume on it's own. Therefore, always compliment them with rice !!

Overall rating : 7/10
Verdict : will always go back again !

Of coz, there are another two more places in town that serves good kelantanese food too ! I will blog about them next time :)

This kedai makan is located near to Dataran Velodrome Cheras. It has a big parking lot in front of the kedai makan. There are many kedai makan there too, however, this place is at the corner lot of the shop houses.

Happy Hunting !

Potato Chicken and French Beans with Eggs

This is my first time attempting to cook this two dishes.
Result : Delicious :)

Kedai Makanan Nam Chun Sarawak Laksa @ Lucky Garden, Bangsar

I can assure you that, this is one of the best Sarawak Laksa in KL !!!
Another good place for sarawak laksa will be at Sunway.

I came across this place via the newspaper.
It is a stall in Kedai Makanan Nam Chun.
The stall's name is Auntie Christina Sarawak Laksa.

Sarawak Laksa
This is the normal version. Vermicelli served with fragrant coconut milk gravy, fresh prawns, egg slices, chicken slices and bean sprouts.
Yummy !

Sarawak Laksa
This is the hardcore fan version. With chicken feet.
Double thumbs up !

Lime and Sambal
The trick is to squeeze the lime into your soup so that it will be more appetizing :)

Black pepper pig stomach soup
This is another specialty by auntie christina. The pig stomach is tender and well cooked.
The soup is neither too spicy nor too bland. Just right :)

The stall

Duck Egg Char Kuey Teow
It is ordered from another stall.
Erm, it is edible.
Better one would be at Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Overall rating : 7/10
Verdict : It's one of my favourite makan place during the weekend.

Huat Kee Fishball Noodle @ Jalan Loke Yew

Huat Kee Fishball Noodle is another recommendation by my dad's friend.
So, my family and I went to hunt for it.

Taste : very nice. I love the fish wonton the most !! <3

Fish Wonton - 50 cent for each piece.
I do not know how they made this wonton, but it is very different from the usual fish wonton out there.
I think, it is wrap with some fish paste and salted fish in it.
It's a must try !

Fishball Noodle - Rm 5 per bowl
Usually, I will order a bowl of noodle with "cham" / mixed variety of ingredients.
I will also add fish wonton too, and it will cost at about rm 7 per bowl of noodle.
Although the soup looked clear, it tasted rich in the sweetness of it.
Highly recommended to order the soup version.
The dry version is not as fragrant.

Cili padi

Barli - Rm 1.20

The stall and workers. They are highly efficient :)

This shop is located at :
Jalan Loke Yew.

I do not have the address of this place. But, it is near to the Federal Bakery Roundabout . Located on the same row with the bridal shops along Jalan Loke Yew.
If you are coming from the Miharja /Jalan Loke Yew direction, turn left at the third junction to go down to the roundabout.
Take the 12 o clock direction at the roundabout and you will see this shop located at your left hand side.
It has the red siren light on top of it's yellow signboard !

Restoran Sheng Huat Coffee Shop @ Jinjang Utara

Restoran Sheng Huat is located at Jinjang Utara.
My family and I decided to try out this place after repeated recommendation by my dad's friends. They said that " it's the best braised pork trotter ! "
So, Must try !!

Always remember to do booking before you go or, you can go there super early like 5pm..
We went there at about 7pm, and it's sold out ! Thank God that we called and booked the pork trotter..

Braised Pork Trotter
Super yummy. The sauce was flavourful and the meat was marinated very well.
It was cooked with some sugar cane, hence, it's sweet and aromatic.

Braised Eggs

Overall rating : 8/10
Verdict : will always go back again. Next time, I will try the pig intestines and bak kut teh.

Shin Kee Beef Noodle , Petaling Street

Kedai Makanan Shin Kee @ Petaling street is famous for their beef noodle.
They even claimed themselves as the Beef Noodle Specialist !!!
So, it's a must try =)

Here is my suggestion : Always try the dry version. It's more fragrant and yummy than the soup version.

Dry version
I ordered dry kuey teow. It was served with minced beef on top !
Slurppp ...
You can also order dry bihun or mee or lou shu fun or etc... of your choice !

The chili sauce
It was a perfect match with the beef noodle. This chili sauce was sourish and not too spicy.
Very appetizing !

The Ingredients
My dry noodle was served with a bowl of soup with all the ingredients in it.
It has 3 beef balls, stomach, fresh beef slices and beef cubes.
The beef balls were chewy and smooth. I always think that beef balls taste better pork balls =)
The fresh beef slices (tenderloin) were tender and juicy !!

Herbal Tea Rm 1.00
Nice !

Rm 6 for a very satisfying beef noodle. Totally worth it !
You can always add on ingredients too !
Rm 8 for a bowl of beef noodle with add ons !

This restaurant is located at :

9 Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock,
50100 Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur Wilayah Persekutuan.
012-673 7318 (Mobile)

It is just a short distance away from the Petaling street's front entrance ( facing kota raya ).
It's opposite Kedai Makanan Lai Foong. It's very easy to spot this small restaurant.
It is opened till 8.30pm everyday.
After that, you can always find their small stall in Petaling street which is situated outside the food court. It's on the same row with the famous loh hon guo drink !

Happy beef noodle hunting !

Recipe : Sujebi aka Korean Spicy Pan Mee !

Inspired by maangchi.com, I decided to make my own spicy Sujebi !!!

Sujebi is something like Pan Mee or Mee Hun Kuey in Malaysia.
The noodles are hand made from flour.
It's chewy and it's a satisfying staple food for Asians. =)

Here goes :

1. Boil some water in a pot. Add in some pork cubes to boil along.

2. Wash some dried anchovies.

3. Dump in about 1 cup of kimchi and the anchovies.

4. And, add in 1 tablespoon of Gochujang =)
Then, pop the lid on and let the soup to boil and thicken while you're busy with the dough.

5. Take the dough out from the refrigerator.
The dough is made out from some flour, a pinch of salt, some vegetable oil and some water. Knead them nicely into a ball, and wrap them up with a cling wrap. Leave them in the refrigerator for a night.

6. Roll them as flat as possible on a flat surface.

7. Tear them into any size of your desire. I like them to be small and cute like this :)

8. Cook the noodles until they are cooked,
then, add in some chives/green onion and some straw mushrooms.
Let it cook for about 1 to 2 mins.

9. Lastly, before serving it, drop in an egg for extra rich flavour. Yums

10. Happy trying !!!

Result : Yummy !!!
What do you think ?

Restoran E&O - Taman Wahyu

Restoran E & O is famous for their Fish Head Curry aka Kari Kepala Ikan =)

My dad brought my family and I to this place last week.
This restaurant is opened by Chinese, but, it is operated by Muslims... and the cooking style is Indian... 1Malaysia !!

Don't be shocked when you see different races of people gathered in this place to have a hot and spicy curry fish head.

Here are some signature dishes :

The Famous Fish Head Curry - Rm 50
They served us with the whole fish head, instead of the usual half side at most of the restaurants.
This Indian Style curry was served with Ikan Jenahak, okras, long beans, tofu pok and some tomatoes.
Very satisfying dish. =)

See how huge it is !!

Fried Chicken
This tasted like the normal fried chicken. I will order fried calamari next time.

Curry Squid
This was my favourite dish of the day. The taste of the curry was different from the fish head's curry. This was thicker and richer in substance.
Reminds me of Nasi Kandar at Pelita !!
Highly recommended !

Sambal Petai
For those who love the smell and taste of this unusual fruit !
This was superb !
The sambal was fragrant. It matched with the petai perfectly !

Poached Cabbage
This dish was normal and overpriced.
You can skip this and order other stuffs instead k?
I think it cost around 16 for this...

Coconut Drink
Last star of the day ! Coconut water to cool down the spiciness.
AHHH !

This place can be easily found. Don't worry.

Overall rating : 8/10
Verdict : will always go back again =) there are more to try...
